As the Manager ABC Radio National you will enhance the on-air and on-line programming and editorial performance of ABC Radio National, ensuring maximum focus on output quality, editorial goals, efficiency and audience needs.
Job Requirements:
• Appropriate tertiary qualifications desirable.
• Extensive experience and a proven track record at a senior level in radio programming and editorial management.
• High level understanding of programming priorities and strategic objectives of ABC Radio.
• A proven track record in delivering innovative Radio programming and a strong understanding of the needs and interests of audiences across platforms.
• Demonstrated high level negotiation and communication skills. Extensive experience in the successful management of budgets and resources in a production environment.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated inclusive team leadership style. Ability to inspire and co-ordinate a diverse group of creative people in a demanding, high profile environment. Ability to guide and influence staff.
• Demonstrated strong personal drive and proven ability to lead change in a fluid media environment.
• Extensive experience in developing and maintaining networks and relationships at a senior level within the media industry.
• An understanding of, and commitment to, the ABC's aims, objectives and workplace values, together with relevant policies and guidelines including Editorial Policies, Equity and Diversity and Work, Health & Safety.
Job Duties:
• Development and implementation of strategy
• Identify and plan strategic priorities in relation to content across all platforms and audiences to achieve network objectives.
• Develop new and innovative content projects to ensure continued growth and innovation of the network.
• Manage production and delivery of content to meet agreed content plans.
• Ensure that content adheres to ABC editorial policies and charter.
• Manage program review, commissioning processes and scheduling for the network.
• Work with Radio Marketing to drive the effective promotion and marketing of the network.
Leadership & Management of People
• Provide leadership and direction to all members of the team to ensure a shared understanding and commitment to Network and Divisional objectives.
• Build a capable and motivated team by ensuring that people are managed and developed effectively to meet current and future needs of the network and the Division.
• Build and manage effective communication processes within the Network and the Radio Division.
• Lead staff in meeting editorial and programming goals; involve staff, as far as practicable in decisions which affect them and develop and employ their professional skills as fully as possible.
• Actively model and promote the ABC Values and apply all relevant policies and guidelines including Editorial Policies, Equity & Diversity and Work, Health & Safety.
Resource and Financial Management
• Contribute to the Divisional budget planning process, implement, monitor and manage budget for Radio National to ensure efficient use of resources and achievement of Divisional objectives.
Relationship/Stakeholder Management
• Build and promote effective relationships within the Network and the Radio Division to deliver content and services in an integrated and effective manner.
• Build effective working relationships with senior management in other Divisions to facilitate alignment of interdivisional priorities and effective cross-divisional processes.
• Lead negotiations with and build and promote effective relationships with high-profile presenters when required.
• Manage senior relationships with external parties to initiate and facilitate collaborative initiatives and create effective content opportunities.
• Be emotionally resilient and able to cope and assist others to cope with change and a degree of ambiguity.
Membership of the Radio Executive
• Contribute to the development of strategy and policy for the division.
• Keep up to date with industry trends and developments and identify and develop opportunities that will benefit ABC Radio.
