Job Description:
This position will provide overall leadership for the technical aspects of a project, maintaining a focus on achieving adherence to technical contractual requirements on time on budget efficiently and safely.

Job Requirements:
• Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Technical Manager with proven track record within similar industry (Engineering, Ship Building, Civil or Commercial Construction, Heavy Manufacturing, Oil & Gas)
• Experience in the management of commercial shipbuilding contracts for government and or defence agencies is highly desirable
• Ability to be a high performing member of a team that can manage complex projects of between AUD$5M to AUD$50M
• Formal project management or engineering qualifications highly desirable
• High level negotiation and dispute resolution skills
• Performance and outcome orientation
• Commercial acumen
• Excellent interpersonal & leadership skills
• Strong network of industry suppliers, subcontractors and contacts
• Mature and patient. Ideally experienced in working with other cultures
• Commitment to continuous improvement, safety, teamwork and open communications
Job Duties:
• Provide technical leadership for one project. This includes design management, class society management, procurement management as well as project management (time, cost, quality, risk and procurement management) in conjunction with the Project Manager
• Responsible for project specific technical management
• Ensure project is delivered in accordance with technical contractual requirements and the specifications
• Provide technical input in to the project schedule in conjunction with the Project Manager
• Ensure project is adequately resourced from a design point of view (in conjunction with the Project and Operations Managers) and subcontractors
• Prepare and administer budgets for the project designer. Accurate budget reporting and management on a monthly basis.
• Responsible for the technical procurement phase of the project inclusive of liaising with all main equipment suppliers and classification society
• Responsible for on time, on budget, delivery of project in conjunction with Project Manager and Project Team
• Responsible for all project technical specific communications between the prime contractor and the Commonwealth
• Accountable for QA/QC work on the project for technical specification and adherence.
• Oversight of all dealings with classification societies, flag states and any relevant regulatory bodies
• Oversight of project specific design management inclusive of all monitoring internal and external design schedules.
• Delivery of regular communications & progress reports to the Operations Manager and Chief Operating Officer
• Establish and maintain high standards of quality and control of cost within budget limits and adherence to the approved delivery program, especially in the design phase
• Identify cost savings in the design where possible
